“Ar pasaules pieredzi Latvijā” (APPLV) with the support of the Society Integration Fund (SIF) NGO Fund is launching a new project aimed at promoting the integration of international students and recent graduates into the Latvian labour market and society. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, more and more non-EU students are starting their studies in Latvia every year (https://www.izm.gov.lv/lv/media/25284/download?attachment). Despite this, only a small percentage stay here after completing their studies. The project aims to help identify the main obstacles and will offer concrete solutions to make Latvia an attractive environment for those who want to pursue their professional career here in the long term.
The main activities planned include a comprehensive study on the barriers and motivations for international students to stay in Latvia, a conference with discussion panels involving key decision-makers, exchange events, educational seminars and practical sessions on the knowledge and contacts needed for the local labour market.
A conference on the results of the study is planned already this autumn, involving decision-makers, policy-makers, international students and employers, as well as other stakeholders.
“We believe that international students and recent graduates are an important resource for Latvia’s economic growth and international competitiveness. Our project aims to build closer cooperation between students, universities, employers and government institutions so that Latvia becomes a place where young talents not only study, but also choose to stay,” says Māra McLaughlin-Taylor, Chair of the Board of ” Ar pasaules pieredzi Latvijā”.
More information about project activities and the opportunity to get involved will be available soon on the organization’s website and social networks.
