Continuing our blog series on people who, through their global experience, strengthen \u201cBrainGain Latvia\u201d, this time we would like to introduce Anete Kristi\u0101na Zonnenberga – a professional in the fields of health, science management, and international cooperation who sees Latvia\u2019s development as closely linked to best practices beyond its borders.<\/p>\n
Anete joined \u201cBrainGain Latvia\u201d two years ago as a member, but became a part of the board this March. Her global experience stems from her studies in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, where she received education in digital health, business management, medicine, and healthcare-related innovations. Today, she applies this knowledge in Latvia, working at the Latvian Council of Science, serving as a lecturer at Riga Stradi\u0146\u0161 University, and participating in projects related to the regulation of medical technologies, market access, and healthcare innovations.<\/p>\n
Between Digital Health, Science, and International Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n Anete\u2019s professional path has always been interdisciplinary. She is interested in the intersection of healthcare, science, technology, data, and societal needs. While studying at the University of Bristol, she focused in depth on digital health, health data, artificial intelligence, sensor technologies, and innovations in healthcare. In Rotterdam, she earned a degree in business management, researching issues related to the pricing and accessibility of gene therapies, as well as working with virtual reality solutions in healthcare education.<\/p>\n Her experience abroad provided Anete not only with academic knowledge but also with a broader perspective on how science, education, healthcare, and innovation are organized in different countries. She acknowledges that it is precisely this experience that helps her better recognize Latvia\u2019s potential – both in the areas where we are already succeeding and in those where we can still learn from international practices.<\/p>\n \u201cI see myself as a bridge between Latvia and the rest of the world – although my feet are on Latvian soil, my mind is partly abroad, always absorbing knowledge elsewhere and then sharing it here,\u201d<\/em> says Anete.<\/p>\n Knowledge to Invest in Latvia<\/strong><\/p>\n Drawing on her experience abroad, Anete continues to invest her knowledge in Latvia. At the Latvian Council of Science, she works on attracting international experts and evaluating research projects in the fields of medicine and health sciences. At the same time, Anete is a lecturer at Riga Stradi\u0146\u0161 University, where she teaches students the fundamentals of digital health, health data, medical technology regulation, the use of wearable sensors, and the role of digital tools in healthcare.<\/p>\n Anete also works on biomedical and medical technology projects at the National Research and Innovation Institute, assisting with regulatory issues, market access, and business strategies. This experience has further strengthened her conviction that Latvia has strong scientific potential, but that it also requires international cooperation, good governance, and the ability to turn ideas into practical solutions.<\/p>\n From Member to Board Member<\/strong><\/p>\n Anete also represents that part of BrainGain for whom Spr\u012bd\u012btis\u2019 journey through the world is not yet over. She does not view her return to Latvia as a static endpoint, but rather as a living connection to Latvia that can coexist with continuing to explore the world, working in an international environment, and acquiring new knowledge. In her view, global experience is not a one-time event, but a process that continues and evolves alongside the individual.<\/p>\n Motivation and Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n By running for the BrainGain board, Anete hopes to work more actively on issues related to international cooperation, the quality of education and science, diaspora engagement, and the quality of healthcare. Her goal is to strengthen the association\u2019s international network and attract professionals from various fields.<\/p>\n Anete believes that people with global experience can be a significant resource for Latvia – not because everything is better abroad, but because experience with different systems helps people make comparisons, think critically, and bring new ideas to the table.
